Minnehaha County Comprehensive Plan: Envision 2045

Like many other local governments in South Dakota, the Minnehaha County government collaborated with the public and other stakeholders this year to draft the ‘2045 Envision Comprehensive Plan’.

“The plan will provide direction in making land use and development decisions throughout the rural area of Minnehaha County. It will communicate your collective values, goals, and policies for the current residents and future generations…Envision 2045 is a tool to assist community leaders in the better representation of the needs of a growing total population while managing the often contentious issues among the vast differences in types of landowners” (Plan Overview, p. vi).

The final plan is scheduled to be voted on by the Commission in early 2025.

To gain a better understanding of the county’s vision and long-term direction, I highly recommend reviewing the plan, or at least select sections of it. Notably, the implementation of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and the changes to building eligibility transfer requirements between contiguous properties stand out as significant updates.
